About Me

I’m Tim Nelson, a New York-based writer and creative strategist.

I graduated from Tufts in 2012 with a bachelor’s in political science, a minor in sociology, and coursework in creative writing. Since then, I’ve worked at Havas Media and MullenLowe Profero, where I’ve written clear, SEO-friendly copy and brought content strategies to life for international clients like Choice Hotels and Western Union.

When I’m not launching branded content campaigns, I’m writing about music and culture over at Thirsty & Miserable, a blog I co-founded two years ago (Want to contribute? Send us an email).

As someone who skis off of cliffs and performs standup comedy at the occasional open mic, I know I’m at my best when I step outside my comfort zone. For my latest adventure, I’ve decided to leave the comforts of a full-time ad agency job behind and seek out new professional challenges. Right now, I’m looking for opportunities to collaborate with brands, non-profits, publications, and agencies on either a freelance or a full-time basis.

Here’s a rundown of what I can do for you:

  • Copywriting (everything from social posts and email headings to long-form article writing)

  • End-to-end content strategy execution (audience identification, laying out content calendars, writing content and uploading within CMS)

  • On-page SEO work (copy edits, meta-element refreshes, consultation)

  • Digital marketing consultation (SEO, branding, content audits)

  • Music and media culture writing, long or short (news, analysis, interviews, reviews, humor pieces, hot takes, listicles, manifestos, tweetstorms, etc.)

  • Go viral by trolling NBA players on Twitter

  • Help your bar trivia team with my near-encyclopedic knowledge of useless information (areas of expertise: history, pop culture, sports, team name ideation)

  • Private ski instructor (former Junior Olympian nbd)

  • Rap squat form coach

  • Do a good-to-great impersonation of Jeff Goldblum or Bernie Sanders at your next party
